Tips
Getting the Most Out of Your CD Labelling Kit
  • If you are putting files onto CD-R for backup purposes, use the jewel case inserts to list the contents of the files backed up. You can do this quite easily from the DOS prompt by typing DIR {CD-ROM drive letter} /w > C:\catinfo.txt. This will 'pipe' the directory into a text file on your hard drive so you can edit the file list easily.

  • If you're putting on your own software, you can put screen shots of the program by running the software and then pressing PRINT SCREEN to capture the program window (or splash screen) onto the clipboard. Use PAINT to edit the image and then use the labeler software to position it on your label.

  • NEVER try to manually put on labels, ALWAYS use the applicator supplied. If you've applied a label onto a CD-R and it's off centre, this could cause vibration problems causing damage to your CD reader.

  • Once you've applied a label, NEVER try to remove it. Removing a label may remove the backing from the CD-R along with the label, rendering your CD-R unusable.

  • Be careful not to put multiple labels onto one CD-R. The adhesive is design to bond to the CD-R surface and not another label underneath it. This may cause the second label to peel causing you problems when using the CD-R in your drive.

  • Try using the different coloured labels for different types of CD-R. For example, use one colour for data, another for images etc. Categorise your data using the colours!

  • Add information to the label to assist users. For example, if software requires a certain configuration, state it on the label. Or, If an administrator may only install the software, give information on how to contact the administrator or relative technical department!
