We have launched a new Cat5 USB Extender that enables the user to retain the plug and play practicality of USB up to 50m from their computer using Cat5 or higher cable, enabling remote connection of any USB device.

The device comprises two parts, a local unit that connects to a USB port on the host computer and a remote unit to which the USB device is connected. The units enable standard low cost Cat5/5e/6 cable to be used to connect them together to extend the USB port by up to 50m at speeds of up to 12Mbps. At lengths of up to 40m, a USB hub can be connected to provide extension for multiple devices.

USB is a very useful, easy to use connectivity standard. But with remote video cameras for example, or other USB devices that are often required to be used at length from the host computer, connection can be problematic. The LINDY Cat5 USB Extender maintains the advantages of using USB, whilst overcoming the limitation on distance from the computer.

The Cat5 USB extender is very easy to use. Simply plug the local unit into the computer, the remote unit into the device or hub, plug a Cat5 cable into both units and it is ready to use with a web cam, security device, printer or any USB device that needs to be located remotely. The Extender is bus powered, but an optional power unit is available for use with high load USB devices.
